Visit to the Senate

My Meeting with Senator Barbara Boxer

It was in the VERY same room where the Clean Air Act was passed.  And the Clean Water Act and a bunch of other important legislation.  Senator Boxer, the Majority Leader of the Environment and Public Works Committee, had a town hall session to update people on their work and she does this roll call at the beginning.  She calls out all of the organizations present and they get to stand up or wave.

Well, it was so cool!  She said she had someone special to introduce at the end and it was me!!  I didn’t even know she knew who I was!  She asked me to come up front and tell everyone what I was working on, and so I got to introduce the Declaration of Independence from Fossil Fuels and remind everyone how important it is to include youth in their decisions affecting global warming.

She connected me with some of her staffers so we can work together on getting the youth voice heard in the EPW committee.  If leaders could look into the eyes of the youth when they make decisions about their future and listen to their concerns before making them, I believe we might just be able to make the changes that need to be made!
